Change the Number (Singular to Plural Exercises)

1. Add '-s': Most nouns just take an 's' (Book -> Books, Cat -> Cats).
2. Add '-es': Nouns ending in -s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, or -o take 'es' (Bus -> Buses, Box -> Boxes, Potato -> Potatoes).
3. Words ending in '-y':
   • If preceded by a consonant, change 'y' to 'i' and add 'es' (Baby -> Babies).
   • If preceded by a vowel, just add 's' (Toy -> Toys).
4. Words ending in '-f' or '-fe': Change 'f' to 'v' and add 'es' (Leaf -> Leaves, Knife -> Knives).

Some words completely change their spelling:

• Man -> Men
• Woman -> Women
• Child -> Children
• Tooth -> Teeth
• Foot -> Feet
• Mouse -> Mice
• Person -> People

When you change the noun to plural, you MUST change the verbs and articles in the sentence.

• 'is' / 'was' / 'has' becomes 'are' / 'were' / 'have'.
• Drop the articles 'a' and 'an' (e.g., 'a cat' becomes 'cats').
• 'This/That' becomes 'These/Those'.

Q1. The child is playing with a toy. Ans: The children are playing with toys.

Q2. This leaf is falling from the tree. Ans: These leaves are falling from the trees.

Q3. A woman is washing a dish in the kitchen. Ans: Women are washing dishes in the kitchens.

Q4. The mouse ran under the box. Ans: The mice ran under the boxes.

Q5. He saw a wolf near the sheep. Ans: They saw wolves near the sheep. (Note: The plural of 'sheep' remains 'sheep'!)
