What is the Full Form of IST? (Indian Standard Time)

In Geography and Clocks, IST stands for Indian Standard Time.

• Time on Earth is mathematically calculated using invisible vertical lines called Longitudes.
• The entire world sets its massive clocks based on the Prime Meridian line (0° longitude) passing through London (known as GMT - Greenwich Mean Time).
• Because India is located to the East of London, the sun rises here first.
• The Indian Government officially selected the specific longitude line of 82.5° East to be the standard line for the entire country. This massive line passes directly through a small city called Mirzapur (near Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh).
• By mathematical calculation, 82.5 degrees East translates exactly to a massive time difference of +5 Hours and 30 Minutes ahead of London (GMT +5:30).

Because India uses only ONE massive time zone, there is a huge problem in Northeast India.

• In Arunachal Pradesh, the sun rises extremely early (around 4:00 AM) and it becomes pitch dark by 4:00 PM. Yet, their clocks show the exact same time as Delhi.
• The Northeast states have massively requested the government to create a separate 'Tea Garden Time Zone' for them to save daylight and electricity, but the government has refused, fearing it would cause massive confusion in railway timetables.
