Industrialisation and Urbanisation go hand in hand

When a large industry is set up in an empty or rural area, it requires thousands of workers.

• People from surrounding villages migrate to this factory area in search of jobs.
• To support these workers, small shops, schools, hospitals, and transport facilities are built around the factory.
• Over time, this small settlement grows into a massive city. Example: The city of Jamshedpur grew entirely because Tata Steel set up its massive iron and steel industry there.

The relationship goes the other way too. Industries prefer to set up near existing big cities because cities provide agglomeration economies.

• Markets: Cities provide a huge market of people ready to buy the manufactured goods.
• Services: Cities provide established services that industries desperately need, such as massive banks for loans, insurance, skilled engineers, and excellent transport hubs (ports and railways).

Therefore, industrialisation causes cities to grow, and existing cities attract more industries. They feed off each other's growth, proving that they truly go hand in hand.
