What is an Aisle Seat? (Meaning in Flights and Trains)

In a standard commercial airplane with 3 seats on each side (like a Boeing 737 or Airbus A320):

• Window Seat: Right next to the window (e.g., Seat A or F).
• Middle Seat: Sandwiched between the two other passengers (e.g., Seat B or E).
• Aisle Seat: Right next to the walkway where people walk up and down (e.g., Seat C or D).

Advantages (Why people love it):

1. Freedom to move: You can get up to stretch your legs or go to the washroom anytime without asking others to move.
2. Extra legroom: You can occasionally stretch one leg out into the aisle (watch out for the food trolley!).
3. Quick exit: You are the first one out of your row when the plane lands.
4. Overhead bin access: Easy access to your bags during the flight.

Disadvantages:

1. Disturbances: People in the window and middle seats will make you stand up when they need to use the washroom.
2. Traffic: People walking down the aisle might bump your shoulder, and the food trolley can hit your elbow.
3. No view: You cannot easily look out the window.
4. No wall to sleep against: Unlike the window seat, you have nothing to lean your head against.

In Indian trains (like AC Chair Car, Shatabdi, or Vande Bharat), the seating arrangement is usually 3x2 or 2x2. The seat next to the walking passage is the aisle seat. In sleeper/AC coaches, the 'Side Lower' and 'Side Upper' berths run parallel to the aisle, while the inner berths have an aisle passing between them.
