Save Water, Save Life (Essay for Students)

Earth is known as the 'Blue Planet' because 71% of its surface is covered by water. However, only about 1% of this water is fresh and accessible for human consumption. We need water for drinking, cooking, washing, agriculture, and running factories. The survival of humans, animals, and plants depends entirely on this tiny percentage of freshwater.

Due to rapid population growth, industrialization, and global warming, we are facing a severe water crisis. Ground-water levels are dropping at alarming rates. Rivers and lakes are drying up or becoming heavily polluted with industrial waste. In many parts of the world, women and children walk miles every day just to get a pot of clean drinking water.

Saving water begins at home. We can adopt simple habits:

• Turn off the tap while brushing teeth or scrubbing hands.
• Fix leaking pipes and dripping taps immediately.
• Use a bucket instead of a hose pipe to wash cars or water plants.
• Promote Rainwater Harvesting in buildings to recharge groundwater.
• Farmers should use drip-irrigation instead of flooding fields.

'Jal hi Jeevan hai' (Water is Life). If we do not act now, the next world wars will be fought over water. It is our moral duty to save every drop of water today to ensure the survival of our future generations.
