Volleyball Ground Size (Court Dimensions & Rules)

An official indoor volleyball court is perfectly rectangular and strictly symmetrical.

• Length: The total length of the court is exactly 18 meters (59 feet).
• Width: The total width of the court is exactly 9 meters (29.5 feet).

The Half Court: A center line divides the massive 18m rectangle perfectly in half, creating two identical square playing areas measuring 9m x 9m for each competing team.

1. The Attack Line (3-Meter Line): This is the most crucial line in the game. It is drawn exactly 3 meters away from and parallel to the center net on both sides.
   • The area between the net and this line is the Front Zone (where players jump and spike/smash the ball).
   • The area behind this line is the Back Zone (defensive area).
2. The Free Zone: The volleyball court does not end exactly at the white boundary lines. Players frequently run outside the lines to save a flying ball. Therefore, there must be an empty, obstacle-free space (Free Zone) of at least 3 meters wide surrounding the entire rectangular court.

The net is hung exactly vertically over the center line. However, the height changes based on the gender of the players:

• For Men: The top of the net is set at a height of 2.43 meters (7 feet 11.6 inches).
• For Women: The top of the net is set slightly lower at 2.24 meters (7 feet 4.1 inches).
