Is Zero (0) a Rational Number? Mathematical Proof

To prove that any number in the universe is rational, it must pass a strict mathematical test with three massive rules:

1. The number must be capable of being written as a fraction in the form p / q.
2. Both 'p' (numerator) and 'q' (denominator) must be clean, whole Integers (like -2, 0, 1, 5).
3. The most critical rule: The bottom denominator 'q' must NEVER be exactly equal to zero (q ≠ 0).

Let us apply the strict test to the number 0.

• Can we write 0 as a fraction? Yes. If you have absolutely nothing (0), and you divide it into 5 pieces, you still have nothing. Therefore, 0 can be written perfectly as 0/1, 0/5, 0/99, or 0/-7.
• In the fraction 0/1, our 'p' is 0 (which is a valid integer) and our 'q' is 1 (which is a valid integer).

Students get confused because they mix up the numerator and denominator.

• 0 / 5 = 0 (This is perfectly legal and rational).
• 5 / 0 = Math Error (This is completely illegal). If you try to divide a physical object into 'zero' pieces, it breaks the laws of physics. Mathematically, any number divided by zero is considered 'Undefined' or Infinity.
