Formative Assessment Meaning in Hindi

In the old days, schools only took one massive, terrifying final exam at the end of the year. If a student failed that one day, their whole year was ruined. Formative Assessment (FA) is a modern system designed to fix this. It is a continuous, low-pressure evaluation of the student while the learning is still happening. It is not just a pen-and-paper test. FAs include class debates, group projects, pop quizzes, oral presentations, and homework assignments scattered throughout the entire month.

The goal of an FA is NOT to judge the student or fail them. The goal is strictly 'Diagnostic'. It helps the teacher find out exactly which chapter the students are struggling to understand before the final exam. If the whole class fails an FA quiz on fractions, the teacher immediately knows they need to stop and teach fractions again using a better method. It helps 'form' and improve the student's learning.

• Formative Assessment (FA): Happens during the learning process (like tasting the soup while cooking it to see if it needs more salt). It carries lower marks but reduces student stress.
• Summative Assessment (SA): The massive, high-pressure final written exam at the absolute end of the semester (like serving the finished soup to the judges). It is strictly to judge and grade the final performance.
