Cause of the War

Mir Qasim had been made Nawab by the British after Plassey (1757), but he tried to govern independently and reform administration. The British objected to his interference in trade. The conflict escalated into open war.

Result

The British won decisively. The Treaty of Allahabad (1765) followed:

The British gained the Diwani rights (right to collect revenue) of Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha from the Mughal Emperor.
This gave the British the financial foundation to become the dominant power in India.
Buxar is considered more decisive than Plassey because it established British political and financial supremacy, not just military dominance.
