Length of the Indus River and the Lowest Population State

The Indus River (known as the Sindhu river in ancient times) is one of the longest rivers in Asia. It gave the 'Indus Valley Civilization' and 'India' their names.

• Total Length: The total length of the Indus river is approximately 3,180 kilometers (1,980 miles).
• The Route: It originates in the Tibetan Plateau near Lake Mansarovar, flows through the Ladakh region of India, and then travels the entire length of Pakistan before emptying into the Arabian Sea near Karachi.
• Significance: It is the longest and most important national river of Pakistan.

While India is the most populated country in the world, the population is not distributed evenly.

• The State: The state with the lowest population in India is Sikkim.
• Why?: Sikkim is a small, mountainous state nestled in the Himalayas. Its rugged terrain, harsh climate, and lack of large flat land for agriculture or massive industries naturally limit the number of people who can settle there.
• (Note: While Sikkim has the lowest population, Goa is the smallest state by geographical area).
