Pratibha Devisingh Patil was the first woman President of India. She served as the 12th President of India from 25 July 2007 to 25 July 2012. She was nominated by the UPA (Congress-led coalition) and was elected by defeating NDA candidate Bhairon Singh Shekhawat. Before becoming President, she was the Governor of Rajasthan (2004–2007).
