DIET Full Form

Full Form: District Institute of Education and Training Hindi: जिला शिक्षा एवं प्रशिक्षण संस्थान (Jila Shiksha evam Prashikshan Sansthan) Established: Under NPE (National Policy on Education) 1986; set up through 1990s Level: District-level (one DIET per district) Under: State Government's Education Department

Objectives of DIET:

1. Pre-service training for elementary school teachers (D.El.Ed / D.Ed courses)
2. In-service training for serving government school teachers
3. Curriculum development and academic support to elementary schools
4. Educational research and innovation at district level
5. Field interaction with schools — block visits, academic support
6. Resource centre for teaching-learning materials (TLM)

Courses Offered at DIET: • D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education) — 2-year course

• Minimum qualification: 10+2 (50%+)
• Required for teaching Classes 1–8 (as per NCTE/RTE)
• Admission via state DIET entrance exam • In-service training programmes for Cluster Resource Centres (CRC), Block Resource Centres (BRC)

DIET Hierarchy in Teacher Education: • NCERT (National) → SCERT (State) → DIET (District) → BRC (Block) → CRC (Cluster) → School
