Tuberculosis (TB) has historically been one of the deadliest diseases in India. To fight it, the government launched a massive medical campaign known by its famous acronym, RNTCP.

Under DOTS, health workers physically watch the patient swallow their medicine every day to ensure they complete the full course.
On January 1, 2020, the Indian Government officially changed the name of RNTCP to NTEP (National Tuberculosis Elimination Program). The change from 'Control' to 'Elimination' reflects the government's ambitious goal to completely eradicate TB from India.
