'Unity is Strength' is one of the most famous and ancient moral stories in the world, originally attributed to Aesop's Fables. It teaches a powerful lesson about teamwork, family, and how staying together makes us unbreakable.
This timeless story gave birth to two of the most famous proverbs in the English language: 'Unity is Strength' and 'United we stand, divided we fall.'
Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived an old, wise farmer. He had four strong sons. However, the farmer was always sad and worried because his sons were constantly fighting and quarreling with each other over petty issues. They never agreed on anything and worked against each other. The farmer tried everything to make them understand the value of peace, but nothing worked.
One day, the farmer fell severely ill and realized his end was near. He decided to teach his sons one final, practical lesson. He called them to his bedside and asked his servant to bring a bundle of thick wooden sticks tied tightly together with a rope. He handed the bundle to his strongest son and said, "Break this bundle in half." The son tried with all his might, his face turning red with effort, but he could not break the bundle. The farmer then passed the bundle to the other three sons. One by one, they all tried their hardest, but the bundle remained completely unbroken.
The farmer smiled gently and untied the rope, separating the sticks. He then handed one single stick to each of his sons and said, "Now, break them." Unsurprisingly, each son snapped their single stick instantly with zero effort.
The old farmer looked at them and delivered his final message: "My sons, did you see what happened? When the sticks were bound together in a bundle, none of you could break them. But when they were separated, they snapped easily. You are exactly like these sticks. If you fight among yourselves and stay divided, the world will easily break you and defeat you. But if you stand together, united and supportive of each other, no enemy on Earth can ever break you."
The moral of the story is that there is immense power in unity. Teamwork, harmony, and staying together as a family or a nation make us invincible against outside threats.
