Once upon a time, a highly clever monkey lived on a massive, beautiful Jamun (blackberry) tree on the banks of a deep river. The tree was always filled with the sweetest, juiciest berries. One day, a huge crocodile swam near the tree to rest. The friendly monkey offered him some fresh berries. The crocodile loved them so much that he started visiting the monkey every single day. They spent hours talking, eating berries, and became the best of friends.
One afternoon, the crocodile took some of the magical sweet berries home for his wife. The wife greedily ate them, but then a highly wicked thought entered her mind. She told her husband, "If these fruits are so incredibly sweet, imagine how delicious and sweet the heart of the monkey must be, who eats them every day! I want you to kill him and bring me his heart to eat." The crocodile was horrified. He refused to kill his best friend. But his evil wife aggressively pretended to be sick and said she would die if she didn't eat the monkey's heart.
Sad and defeated, the foolish crocodile swam to the monkey and lied. He said, "My wife loved the fruits and has invited you to our home for a massive dinner. Jump on my back, I will carry you across the river." As they reached the deep middle of the river, the crocodile felt guilty and confessed his wife's evil plan to kill him. The monkey was absolutely terrified, but he did not panic. He used his brilliant brain and said, "Oh no, my friend! Why didn't you tell me earlier? I always keep my sweet heart safely hidden in the branches of the Jamun tree. Turn around quickly so I can get it for your wife!"
The foolish, brainless crocodile believed the trick. He immediately turned around and swam back to the riverbank. The exact second they touched the shore, the monkey took a massive leap, climbed to the absolute top of the tree, and screamed, "You fool! A heart cannot be kept outside a body. You betrayed my friendship, and now you have lost both your friend and your sweet berries forever!"
The monkey generously gave the crocodile the sweetest, juiciest Jamun berries from his massive tree every single day.
Because she was extremely greedy. She wrongly calculated that if the monkey ate such sweet fruits every day, his physical heart must be the sweetest, most delicious meat in the world.
