Dominion Status Meaning in Hindi (History)

The Hindi translation for Dominion Status is अधिराज्य का दर्जा (Adhirajya ka Darja) or औपनिवेशिक स्वराज्य (Aupniveshik Swarajya).

In the British Empire, giving a country 'Dominion Status' meant giving them Semi-Independence.

• Internal Freedom: The country (India) would get its own parliament, make its own local laws, and the Indian leaders would run the daily government.
• The Catch: India would NOT be a fully independent, sovereign country. The supreme boss of India would still be the British King/Queen. The British would still completely control India's Military, Foreign Policy, and international trade.
• Examples: Australia and Canada were granted Dominion Status by the British.

• In 1929, Lord Irwin offered India 'Dominion Status' in an attempt to stop the freedom protests.
• Older leaders like Motilal Nehru were initially ready to accept it, thinking half-independence was better than nothing.
• However, young, fiery leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhas Chandra Bose angrily rejected the offer. They said Dominion Status was an insult.
• This rejection led to the famous 1929 Lahore Session where the Congress officially declared their final goal: 'Purna Swaraj' (पूर्ण स्वराज - Complete and Total Independence).
