Who is the Current Governor of Goa? (2024)

Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai is an eminent Indian politician and a highly respected author who has written over 100 books. Before taking over as the massive constitutional head of the beautiful coastal state of Goa in July 2021, he also served as the Governor of Mizoram.

Just like the President is the nominal head of the entire country, the Governor is the strict Constitutional Head of the State. However, the massive difference between a Chief Minister (CM) and a Governor is that the CM is directly elected by the public, while the Governor is highly selectively appointed directly by the President of India to act as a representative of the Central Government in New Delhi.

Even though the Chief Minister holds the real political power, the Governor has incredible constitutional authority:

1. Appointment Power: The Governor legally appoints the Chief Minister after an election.
2. Signing Bills: If the Goa state assembly passes a new law, it is totally invalid until the Governor physically signs it.
3. President's Rule: If the state government collapses into pure chaos or extreme corruption, the Governor can secretly advise the President to dismiss the CM and impose strict 'President's Rule' over the state.
